HEADLINE:

Ponyboy gets slapped by his own brother!!!
On a late tuesday night Ponyboy (14) gets slapped by his older brother Darry at 11:00pm for coming back home late because he (Ponyboy)fell asleep with Johnny in their secret place. The reason this has occurred is because Darry and Ponyboy are having a bad time with each other ever since their parents died, and so if Ponyboy comes late at night Darry would be worried and so this is why Darry(Ponyboy other brother) chose to slap Ponyboy.

2017 year 10 film eassay-Junior Tuliakiono

Today I will be writing an essay about, “The Power Of One” which was directed by John G. Avildsen. I will be describing techniques that were used in the film and how it made me feel emotionally. I will be writing about Maraias death, Geel Piet being attacked and The shot at the start of the film.

1S: In the film the power of one, the director John G. Avildsen used a mid shot,
E: when Maraia was lying lifeless on the floor after getting hit in the head by a police man..
X: This made me feel very empathetic  and sorry for PK, because Maraia was his love and she was taken from him unexpectedly.
X: I think director used a mid shot on Maraias lifeless body to make the audience feel sad and empathetic towards PK so that we could grow a better relationship with PK in the film.
X: I think this mid shot of Maraias body combined with sad/somber music would make a very huge impact on the audience.
Y: This scene reminds of how in the movie, “The Amazing Spider Man” spider man couldn’t save His girlfriend and she died.

2S: In this scene of the film, “The Power Of One” the director used a close up between
E: Geel Piet and the prison guard which is holding down Geel Piet aggressively and threatening him.
X: This affected the audience by making them feel sorry for Geel Piet as he cannot do anything and angry/outraged towards the guard for doing this to Geel Piet.
X: The director did this to make us feel and represent that the guard has more power and dominance over Geel Piet.
X: A technique that would’ve combined well with this mid shot is some lighting,  so that when the guard is over Geel Piet, Geel Piet is in the shadow, and we will have more of a feel of dominance.
Y : This reminds me of how bullies grab students by their neck in movies and threaten them.

3S: On the first scene of the movie, “The Power of One” John G. Avildsen used an establishing shot
E: of the land of Africa.
X: This gave the audience more of a feel of/about the movie and the landscape of Africa.
X: I think the director did this to introduce the audience to the film in a more eye catching and detailed way.
X:This establishing shot combined with music (Africans Speaking) really set the scene and gave the whole audience a really good vibe to this film/movie.
Y: This connects to the film xXxander cage when xander cage was on the tower (establishing shot).

In this essay I have written about techniques in movies and how it made me feel.
Today I managed to write about the attack Geel Piet, Maraia and the first shot (establishing shot)
Overall, I think this film was a pretty good, heartwarming and inspirational movie.
